Best Buy Samsung Smart Tv 36 2021
Full-array local dimming backlight: This term refers to a TV technology in which the backlight is behind the LCD panel and has individual zones that can turn on and off depending on the content. Such TVs are usually larger and more expensive to build and design, and more zones cost more. However, TVs with full-array local dimming typically provide the best LCD picture quality by improving contrast ratios and shadow detail.

As with 4K, it's now hard to buy a TV that doesn't have a smart platform packed with streaming apps. Almost every TV will have Netflix and Amazon Prime Video on board, and Disney+ is fast approaching a similar level of ubiquity. Apple TV (which is great for pay-as-you-go movies as well as the Apple TV+ subscription service) is becoming increasingly common, too.
Serious gamers also need to check that their prospective new TV supports all of the latest gaming features. The most technically advanced and therefore rarest of these is 4K/120Hz, but VRR and ALLM are also worth looking out for. There are a number of TVs on this list that support all of these features, but we have a dedicated best gaming TVs guide for those to whom gaming is the primary concern.
There are few TVs at any price that are smarter than the AU7100, which features a Tizen operating system with more or less every app you could possibly need. There are also three HDMI inputs for external sources, one of which handles eARC for a soundbar or other sound system. ALLM is supported, too, though 4K/120Hz and VRR predictably are not.
Overall, the C2 is quite comfortably the best TV available at the size, particularly if you combine it with a soundbar. But do stay tuned for our review of the new C3, which is expected to arrive in shops very soon.
We don't accept the out-of-the-box settings that a TV comes in either. While we intentionally don't go down the route of professional calibration (you shouldn't have to have your TV professionally calibrated in order to get the best out of it), we do spend hours adjusting settings using a mixture of test patterns and real-world content until we are sure we're getting the most out of a TV so that it has the best chance to shine.
From all of our reviews, we choose the best products to feature in our Best Buys. That's why if you take the plunge and buy one of the products recommended above, or on any other Best Buy page, you can be assured you are getting a What Hi-Fi? approved product.
An LG TV tops our best TVs guide, but Samsung is the market leader for sales overall. If you're looking for the most impressive picture quality out there, regardless of price, nothing currently beats LG's OLED panels for color and contrast.
It isn't easy to find the best TV. In recent years, several of the biggest names in TV tech, like LG, Panasonic, Sony and Samsung, have all tried to claim the top spot in home entertainment. That's great news for us, with more and more fantastic TVs packed with features and mind-blowing picture quality available to buy. But with so much choice, how do you find the best TV for you?
We've put together this guide because we know that buying a new TV can be overwhelming. Here, we've focused on all-round excellence. So if you're looking for very high-performance gaming TVs, we'd suggest you also check out our best gaming TVs guide.
Are you buying with a particular price tag in mind? There are plenty of great TVs in our best TVs under 1000 guide. That's because that part of the TV market is incredibly competitive, and high-end features that would have cost more than your house just a few years ago have made their way into sets costing less than 1K.
We've reviewed every kind of TV over the years, from the first flat-screens through the original OLEDs right up to today's best 85-inch TVs. And that means we know what features really matter and what features will deliver the most bang for your TV-buying buck. No matter how much you want to spend, what you want to watch or where you want to watch it, you should find the best TV for you in the guide below.
There are, of course, higher resolution flatscreen TVs on our list, like the Samsung QN900B, which offers 8K resolution, and the new upgraded LG G2 OLED that has a slightly higher peak brightness. But for the price, this is the best TV you can buy.
So why is it all the way down here in our top TVs list? The short answer: the smart TV interface. While the hardware here is wonderful, we're less impressed by the new Smart Hub UI. Samsung's attempts to make the system better at recommending content and apps has the unfortunate side-effect of making everyday tasks such as quickly adjusting picture settings more complex. What used to take a couple of quick button presses now means quitting what you're watching to go and wade through menus. It's a minor issue and we're sure Samsung will take the criticism on board for a future software update, but for now it takes the shine of an otherwise excellent 8K TV.
This is no ordinary OLED. It's a quantum dot OLED, which delivers even better brightness than a typical OLED panel. The specification is impressive too. As we said in our review, "we're looking a TV that has had the kitchen sink thrown at it, with Samsung's latest AI-inspired picture processor, a massively comprehensive and re-designed Tizen-based smart system, the latest gaming features, and even, despite the ultra-slim design, a clever object tracking sound audio system".
The picture's so good that we're almost willing to overlook Samsung's redesigned smart TV interface, which feels very much like a backwards step: the menu navigation is often confusing and the interface is laggy at first, which you don't expect from a TV in this price bracket. But these are relatively minor flaws in a very impressive TV that outperforms many rival OLED displays.
The Samsung Q80B is a high value yet mid-range 4K QLED screen. During our testing we decided it would be a perfect TV for everyday viewing, as well as console gaming, which is why it makes our best TV list as a top mid-range display.
In our guide above, we've selected the best TVs you can buy right now. We picked these TVs based on a few key criteria. The first is picture quality, we wanted to be sure images were clear and sharp, no matter whether you're watching 4K content or upscaled content.

Although not as popular in recent years, there's still some demand for 32-inch TVs for small rooms or kitchens. However, many popular manufacturers don't release models in this size, and they're becoming hard to find.
