You might want to look for newer drivers on HP's site. This HP support page says that Apple no longer provides print drivers through Apple Software Update (not sure about drivers on Apple Support Web pages), and has a link to HP's driver site.
I had the same issue before, and a colleague told me to try this site for software and drivers, where I luckily found one for my HP printer too. Give it a try if you can find one that will work for your HP printer.

The supplied PPDs are provided by OpenPrinting.org and include PPDs for printers made by HP and printers made by other manufacturers. HP does not provide support for any non-HP printer.
